Deutsche Telekom showcases network technology of the future

  • International multi-city showcase of next-generation mobile communications technology
  • This year itself: launch of HSPA+ technology for bandwidths of up to 42 Mbit/s in the German T-Mobile network
  • Comprehensive modernization of UMTS network in Germany

At CeBIT 2010, Deutsche Telekom will demonstrate the benefits and the high level of convenience which mobile broadband technology has to offer for connected life and work when on the road: in a showcase of next-generation mobile networks (NGMN), visitors to the exhibition can experience the advantages of long-term evolution (LTE) technology in everyday life. The visitors are present at mobile video conferences in HD quality and can see how people use mobile broadband networks to work together: they can discuss things via video conference and simultaneously access the same files. A live video conference between the exhibition stand in Hanover and a moving car in Innsbruck will demonstrate cross-border mobile broadband applications. In a live showcase at CeBIT 2010, Deutsche Telekom will also be the first network operator in Germany to present the next evolutionary upgrade of HSPA technology with speeds of up to 42 Mbit/s. "At CeBIT 2010, we will show that we can offer our customers applications for connected life and work almost everywhere", says Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, Managing Director of Technology at T-Mobile Deutschland and Member of T-Home Board of Management responsible for Technology, "We are deploying the full range of technical possibilities for our customers. The showcases at CeBIT 2010 emphasize our pioneering position when it comes to innovations in mobile communications. We have been the first to equip the entire UMTS network with HSPA technology as well as launch EDGE throughout Germany. We shall continue being a driving force for innovation". As part of the LTE showcase, Deutsche Telekom will have a high-speed connection between the CeBIT stand and transmitter and receiver units in Innsbruck and Bonn. Maximum speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s provide a wholly new feel to mobile Internet capabilities, for instance in video streaming applications or while exchanging photographs, audio/video and text files in social networks. A special highlight at the CeBIT: at a huge multi-touch desk, visitors can select and control the desired LTE test applications. Deutsche Telekom’s strategic partners Huawei and Samsung will play a significant role in the execution of the showcase. Huawei is involved in setting up the network infrastructure, whereas Samsung will provide the LTE mobile communications devices. Nokia Siemens Networks have set up the network infrastructure for the HSPA+ demonstrations at CeBIT 2010; QUALCOMM will supply the device technology. Deutsche Telekom’s aim is to soon launch HSPA+ with maximum bandwidths of 21 Mbit/s within the German T-Mobile network. During the course of 2010, transmission speeds are to be increased to 42 Mbit/s Marketing for a web’n’walk stick to support HSPA+ with a maximum bandwidth of 21 Mbit/s is scheduled to commence in April. Bandwidth upgrades within the T-Mobile network are an essential component of the greatest 3G modernization and upgrade campaign of Deutsche Telekom to date. Additional components of the project are replacing a major portion of UMTS/HSPA network technology, significantly increasing 3G coverage and enhancing the connection bandwidth of the base stations. With this program, Deutsche Telekom aims to guarantee optimum network quality and capacity on a long-term basis. Furthermore, the new technology will ensure an approximately 30% reduction in the power consumption of the 3G locations and will thus contribute significantly to environmental and climate protection. The program will be concluded by the end of 2010. In the past few years, Deutsche Telekom has already implemented extensive modernization measures of the entire GSM and EDGE network components. Bruno Jacobfeuerborn: “We are interested in providing a comprehensive and excellent technical platform for new and existing services. Whether you want to use your iPhone to surf the Internet, access your company network from your laptop, or simply want to make a call with your cell phone - our network guarantees that our customers enjoy top speed and excellent quality both today and tomorrow”. Deutsche Telekom at CeBIT 2010 - see you there! You will find us in hall 4, stand D26.
