  • Deutsche Telekom laying optical fiber in Burgenlandkreis county
  • Potential speeds of up to 1 Gbps
  • More than 46,000 households to benefit

Deutsche Telekom will supply superfast Internet access to Burgenlandkreis county. This will benefit more than 46,000 households and over 2,000 companies in more than 100 business parks. The company will supply all municipalities and communities in the county with a combination of different fiber-optic technologies: with "fiber to the curb" (FTTC), the fiber optic line ends at the street cabinets, while with "fiber to the home (FTTH) the optical fiber is laid directly to the home. The new connections provide download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) and upload speeds of up to 500 Mbps. Deutsche Telekom will lay nearly 1,900 kilometers of optical fiber and install or modernize some 900 street cabinets for the upgrade. The work is planned to be completed by early 2020, when the new bandwidths will be available to the customers in Burgenlandkreis county.

"We wish to thank Burgenlandkreis county for their trust. We will expedite the upgrade and complete it as soon as possible. We install more optical fiber than any other company in Germany. We are the fiber-optic experts! Burgenlandkreis county and its customers will now benefit from this expertise as well," said Dr. Vesta von Bossel, Deutsche Telekom's Board representative for broadband rollout.

How the fast network is getting to subscribers' homes

The copper lines now running between local exchanges and street cabinets are being replaced with fiber-optic cables, which will provide much higher transmission speeds of at least 50 Mbps. Vectoring, which eliminates electromagnetic interference, will be used to make the lines faster. As of the second half of 2018, "super-vectoring" technology will be implemented, and this will enable bandwidths of up to 250 Mbit/s.

Customers can find additional information about the upgrade status in their respective regions under www.telekom.de/schneller. Customers can also register at this URL to ensure that they are notified automatically as soon as higher speeds become available where they live.
