Deutschland TelePresence for the German Soccer Federation team camp: live video conferencing between South Africa and Germany

  • Telekom and Cisco provide the German Soccer Federation with top-quality video conferencing
  • Conference facility in South Africa is the first international installation of Deutschland TelePresence

Telekom, Cisco and the German Soccer Federation (DFB) are further building on their partnership, launched at CeBIT 2010, with the live video conferencing service, Deutschland TelePresence. The two technology companies are equipping the German national soccer team camp in South Africa with a TelePresence system and ensuring a reliable, high-performance link to the TelePresence platform in Germany. The TelePresence conference room in South Africa is directly adjacent to the German team base at the Velmore Grand Hotel near Pretoria. In Germany, TelePresence systems are available at sites including the DFB headquarters in Frankfurt/Main, as well as in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Bonn. DFB representatives in South Africa and Germany can use Deutschland TelePresence to communicate with one another in superb video and audio quality. For Telekom and Cisco, the conference service between South Africa and Germany represents an all-time first and a major step forwards, as this is the first time Deutschland TelePresence has ever been used internationally - no small feat, using deep-sea fiber optic cables over a linear distance of 8,000 km. Telekom and Cisco plan to supply the TelePresence service and TelePresence systems to the DFB over a three-year period. As well as using live conferencing for internal communications, the DFB will also be using the system in other ways, such as for direct contact with its partners. Deutschland TelePresence is available in a range of different versions. Each version is a complete package that comprises all relevant services, including planning, installation and operation. More specifically, packages include a broadband Internet access, the TelePresence System (from Cisco), an operator service, a reservation system, a high-performance security system and all installation, operation and maintenance. All components mesh perfectly, enabling customers to use the service simply and easily at the push of a button. Telekom has been a partner to the DFB and a Premium partner to the national men's, women's and youth teams since 2005. The Group is also "national sponsor" of the 2011 Women's Soccer World Cup to be staged in Germany. In addition to initiatives in the sporting arena, Telekom is also developing promising business models with a focus on soccer. Partnerships based on the much-loved sport open up a string of opportunities for demonstrating the innovative strength of Europe's leading telecommunications provider with new products and services.
