Cloud Services from Switzerland: SBB continues its journey with T-Systems

  • T-Systems and SBB have signed another major contract
  • The entire SBB SAP infrastructure is to be transformed to the cloud
  • Platform-as-a-service infrastructure for databases, middleware and Web servers

The journey continues: Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen (SBB - Swiss Federal Railways) and T-Systems are pursuing the transformation of the SBB infrastructure to the cloud. Following the successful transferral this year by T‑Systems Switzerland of some of its cloud-compatible applications to the cloud, SBB is now following suit with its SAP infrastructure. Databases, applications and middleware are also being examined to check their cloud-compatibility.

Entire infrastructure and PaaS in the cloud

The contract covers, on the one hand, virtual systems and SAP HANA appliances, which will be made available in the future as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). The second part of the contract deals with "Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)" services, which are brought together in a platform based on Red Hat’s OpenShift . T-Systems provides pre-configured, scalable components for middleware, databases and Web servers which can be selected, configured and rolled out via a self-service portal by a simple mouse click.

The solution is based on a combination of international and local services. T‑Systems is developing a cloud in Switzerland in which applications can be operated with stringent Service Level Agreements (SLA) and rapid response times.

The economy is being digitized at breakneck speed and is connecting the virtual with the physical world in the "Internet of Things." Machines communicate with products and vehicles with the connected house, while doctors use smartphones, tablets and wearables to communicate with their patients. As a partner to SMEs and large corporations, Deutsche Telekom offers a huge range of solutions in this field, helping companies to implement the strategies that will set them on the way to new business models for the digital world of tomorrow.
Quality and service are the decisive purchase criteria for corporate customers, coming even before price, a study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers has revealed. T-Systems has invested heavily in recent years with the aim of achieving highly stable IT systems and reliable service provision. The TND Infratest customer satisfaction survey 2015 confirmed that this has paid off: T‑Systems is in the major league of European ICT service providers with the most satisfied customers for the third time running.
