Your data is protected by European law. And by our high internal standards. They are the basis for all our measures. That's not just talk, either; we also review them regularly.

How do you benefit from European Data Protection?

Data privacy is a fundamental right in the European Union. You can never lose it. That means: you always have control over your own data. No one else has the right to decide what to do with it. This is also reflected in the strictest data privacy requirements worldwide, embedded in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Your fundamental right to data privacy also covers:

  • Right to object and to rectification

Foreign companies are also noticing Europe's lead in data privacy. Microsoft, for example, hosts some of its cloud programs in German data centers – in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom. That's how we ensure that data in the Microsoft Trust Center also enjoys maximum protection.

How do we regulate the protection of your data?

For us, data privacy is more than just a legal requirement; it's also an important issue overall. That's why we've taken measures to ensure our high data privacy standards. In addition to the legal regulations, all employees must also follow the Group Policies for Data Protection, which are even stricter than the applicable laws in some cases. The frequency of privacy training courses for our employees is one example of this.

In the event of deliberate violations of our policies and behavioral requirements, Deutsche Telekom acts in accordance with our Code of Conduct with a zero tolerance strategy and consistently sanctions misconduct.

Internal guidance and monitoring:

The Group Privacy department advises and monitors all Deutsche Telekom companies with regard to compliance with legal regulations and internal privacy policies. Every one of our product and service developments must be submitted to the department's experts, who conduct a strict privacy and security assessment (PSA) to ensure that all requirements of data privacy and data security are met. Only then can products be offered to customers or used internally

External guidance and monitoring service:

An independent Data Privacy Advisory Board, staffed by experts from politics, academia, and business, advises Deutsche Telekom's Board of Management. The members of the Advisory Board make recommendations for our data privacy measures. In addition, we regularly submit our processes and products to external audit agencies, such as TÜV and DEKRA, for certification. This ensures that our privacy protection level remains high

Who has access to your data?

Access to your data is granted on a strict need-to-know basis. This means that only as many people as absolutely necessary come into contact with your data. For example, to a customer service employee who needs to give you specific information. Or our finance department, which needs your address to send your bills. All employees are regularly obliged to observe data privacy and telecommunications secrecy. In addition, every data access by an employee is recorded and, in case of doubt, reviewed.

We use masking methods to make your data unreadable for third parties. These methods always employ state-of-the-art technology.
