Timotheus Höttges, born in 1962 and a German national, has been Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Telekom AG since January 2014. From 2009 until his appointment as Chief Executive Officer, he was responsible for Finance and Controlling as a member of the Group Board of Management; from 2006 to 2009, he was responsible for the T-Home business area on the Group Board of Management.
During Höttges' tenure as Chief Executive Officer, the company reorganized its service operations and established T-Security as a standalone cybersecurity unit, among other initiatives. In 2020, T-Mobile US merged with the provider Sprint in the United States. Höttges focused Telekom's business model on converged fixed-network and mobile offerings as well as network-adjacent products such as television and cloud services. Deutsche Telekom’s investments most recently rose to 21 billion euros worldwide. This accelerated the expansion of 5G and fiber optics, and Telekom achieves the best network quality in each of its key markets. In 2022, Höttges assumed direct responsibility for sustainability. By 2040, Telekom aims to achieve climate neutrality across its entire value chain (Scope 1-3), in the form of Net Zero emissions. Network operations were already switched to electricity from renewable energy sources worldwide in 2021.
After earning a degree in business administration at the University of Cologne, Höttges spent three years at a management consulting firm, most recently as a project manager. At the end of 1992, he moved to the VIAG Group in Munich, where he was responsible for controlling, corporate planning and mergers and acquisitions from 1997 as divisional manager and later as chief representative. As a project manager, he played a key role in the merger of VIAG AG and VEBA AG to form E.on AG, which took effect on September 27, 2000.
