Believe it or not, fax as a communication channel continues to appeal to criminals. A trading partner of Deutsche Telekom AG was surprised by CEO Tim Höttges' alleged wish to support a special edition of "The Heavy Industry Magazine" with advertisements. This was sent by fax.
On closer inspection the fraud was easy to spot. The perpetrator or perpetrators had made a lot of effort. However, the sender address did not match the official company address, nor was the fax sent from Bonn, but apparently from Qatar.
Deutsche Telekom is in good company with this scam. Siemens had already described an almost identical case in October.
